Having won two successful elections, I
have had the privilege to serve on the Irvine City Council since 2004.
In that time, I have honored my commitment to support balanced budgets,
expand City support for local schools, work in partnership with the local
business community and demonstrate the highest standards of open and
inclusive government.
Because of term limits, Mayor Beth Krom
cannot run for a third term as Mayor. I am proud of what has been accomplished
under Mayor Krom’s leadership. As Mayor Pro Tem, I have worked
side-by-side with Mayor Krom to advance important initiatives for the
benefit of Irvine residents.
The past four years have been a time of
extraordinary success for our city. With a balanced budget and more than
$20 million in reserves, we are fiscally secure. We have opened new community
parks, advanced significant infrastructure projects and have invested
millions to upgrade traffic signal synchronization, improve intersections
and enhance transit access to support mobility for the people who live
and work in our city.
I
want to keep Irvine moving in a positive direction. That’s
why I am running for Mayor of Irvine.
I recognize that to have the greatest impact
on the future, we must focus on our youth. I am proud to have led the
effort to create the Irvine Educational Partnership Fund which invests
$500,000 each year to support school nurses, counselors and nutrition
programs in our local schools.
As we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of
Irvine’s historic Open Space Agreement this year, I will continue
to advocate for greater public access to our open space reserves and
work diligently to ensure that the Orange County Great Park is indeed “The
First Great Metropolitan Park of the 21st Century.”
With your support, I look forward to serving
the citizens of Irvine as Mayor. If you believe, as I do, that Irvine
deserves a Mayor who will provide positive leadership and dedicate themselves
each and every day to serve the interests of all Irvine residents, I
ask for your vote on November 4, 2008
